Teeth whitening treatments

1. Home Teeth Whitening

Home teeth whitening systems allow you to whiten your teeth from the comfort of your own home, but you should not attempt to use one without expert advice. Tray based teeth whitening treatments can provide the ideal home whitening solution, depending on the level of tooth discolouration. Choose a home teeth whitening programme designed specifically for you with The Dental Clinic.

Your teeth whitening consultation

When you choose tray based home teeth whitening you'll need an initial consultation with your dentist, they will be able to tell you if you are suitable for home teeth whitening treatments. If so, your dentist will then take impressions of your teeth which are then used to produce upper/lower trays made of a soft vinyl rubber. The trays are tailored to fit the exact contours of your teeth and are specially moulded to fit into your mouth like a gum¬shield.

This allows the home teeth whitening gel to closely contact your enamel to produce an all over, consistent, whiter smile. Ready made trays from other home teeth whitening products simply don't allow the close contact that is required to create such even results. Your dentist will provide you with 5 syringes of solution for home use. regularly applying the whitening product over several days, 60 minutes or even overnight per day. By applying a small amount of the gel to the specialised tray and fitting the tray onto your teeth, the home whitening system will remove most stains.

2. In office treatment

In-office bleaching provides the quickest way to whiten teeth. With in-office bleaching, the whitening product is applied directly to the teeth. These products can be used in combination with heat, a special light, and/or a laser. Results are seen in only one, 30- to 60-minute treatment. But to achieve dramatic results, several appointments are usually needed. However, with in-office bleaching, dramatic results can be seen after the first treatment. This type of whitening is also the most expensive technique

>> How Long Do Teeth Whitening Effects Last?

Teeth whitening is not permanent. People who expose their teeth to foods and beverages that cause staining may see the whiteness start to fade in as little as one month. Those who avoid foods and beverages that stain may be able to wait one year or longer before another whitening treatment or touch-up is needed.

The degree of whiteness will vary from individual to individual depending on the condition of the teeth, the level of staining, and the type of bleaching system used.
